TrailManor
4-way (1/2/Both/Off)
Battery Switch Project
Two months prior to this project,
I completed a similar
project, installing a battery on/off switch on my trailer. Since that
time, my needs have changed. I installed an electric tongue jack on my
trailer. I had been advised that when in use, some electric tongue jacks
can pull enough of a load from the trailer's 12 volt system to severely damage
the power converter (a Parallax 6300 in mine) in the trailer. So I set out
to wire the electric tongue jack in such a way that I would not inadvertently
power the jack while the trailer's converter was active (plugged into shore
power).
I checked with the same
manufacturer (Blue Sea Systems) that made the basic mini-on/off switch used in
the first project. They made a switch like I wanted but not in their mini
line. The mini-switch is about 2.5" square where their standard
switch line is 3.85" square. As luck would have it, while on the
phone with a very helpful engineer from Blue Sea Systems, he told me that
another company was making a 4-way switch in a mini version. I Googled
"BEP New Zealand" and found BEP Marine's website. Researched
their product, found and contacted their US distributor and ordered up my BEP
Marine 701-S 4-way Battery Switch. Below are pictures of my conversion
project from the on/off switch to the 4-way switch.
