This weekend, we traveled to the Liberty,
IL area for the 2nd Annual Smith Family Reunion. We camped amongst dense
tall pines in nearby Siloam Springs
State Park. Lisa traveled and camped with us. The trip went
pretty well. We had a little rain and an electrical problem in the
trailer, but nothing that put a damper on our fun. We had a pleasant time
visiting with the Smith side of the family and it was great that Marge and Jan
(Nancy's mother and sister) were able to make it this year.

Liberty
Liberty,
IL is a very small town just east of Quincy in west central Illinois. It
has a population of 519
and covers just less than a half square mile. There is a nice park in
the center of town with a playground and a pavilion. The reunion was held
in this park. We chose the Siloam Springs State Park to camp in due to its
close proximity to Liberty - about 12 miles north east.

On the way back, we stopped in Griggsville, IL (Purple Martin capital of the nation!) and we ate at the Purple Martin Restaurant. We had the buffet. The broasted chicken was very good but the reason I mention this place is we saw the pork tenderloin sandwiches that others had ordered and oh my gosh - those things were huge! They pound them out and bread them on-site and I am not exaggerating, they were a foot long and probably 8 inches wide. I have never seen a pork tenderloin pounded out that big and it was still a half inch thick! We are definitely stopping at the Purple Martin for lunch next year.
