Sausage Gravy
This is a rich and tasty Country Sausage Gravy that's perfect for pouring over hot biscuits, toast or
eggs.
Ingredients
- 1 pound sage sausage (such as Jimmy Dean® or Bob Evans®)
- 6 tablespoons flour
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce®
- 1 dash hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
- Course ground pepper to taste
Steps
- In a large heavy (non-stick preferably) frying pan, crumble and brown sausage over
medium-low heat. Drain off pan drippings, leaving 2 tablespoons in pan with sausage
- Sprinkle flour over sausage, stir it in and cook over medium-low heat for about 6
minutes or until mixture bubbles and turns golden
- Stir in milk and all other ingredients and continue to stir as mixture cooks and
thickens
- Taste gravy and add additional salt and pepper as desired
- Serve hot over biscuits1, toast or eggs
