Vicki's Biscuits
These are wonderful biscuits that are easy to make too. They are great for biscuits
and gravy. They work well for other pour-over gravies and sauces as well as biscuits for
any meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoons sugar
- 1/3 cup butter flavored shortening (like CriscoŽ)
- 1 cup whole milk (slightly increase shortening if using no or low-fat milk)
Steps
- In a large bowl, add all dry ingredients and mix with spoon
- Add shortening and cut into flour mixture with hand pastry blender
- Add milk to flour and shortening mixture and cut in with hand pastry blender until milk
is just incorporated. Mixture should be wet with no dry flour (dough will be lumpy and
somewhat crumbly) - do not over mix as biscuits will be tough
- Divide dough into 6 parts and place on a greased baking sheet
- Bake at 420 degrees for about 12 to 15 minutes
Dough may be refrigerated for about a week.
