Archive for the Texas CategoryI arrived back in Texas today. Flew from Chicago to San Antonio where my friend, fellow Heartlander and forum moderator Jim M picked me up at the airport and brought me back to his place in George West, TX. Took Jim and Bette out for dinner, got me some groceries and settled back into the RV in Jim/Bette’s back yard. Heading out on Wednesday morning for Houston (Spring) for the Heartland Owners Spring Houston Rally at Rayford Crossing RV Resort. It’s nice to have left snow and temps in the low 20s to sunshine and temps in the 80s/90s I arrived in the Rio Grande Valley area of south Texas on Monday afternoon. I am renting a site for 3 nights at Retama Village in Mission, TX. Nice place. The site I am on is a “coach house” site. When you purchase the site, you get a 12′x20′ coach house shell built for you as well. Then you can finish the interior as you see fit. I spent the afternoon in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico today, just over the border from Mercedes, TX. I went with Joseph D and Gene H. We walked over. Got a nice $5 haircut too. Below are some pics from the trip.
Here I am on the center of the bridge. The border is the center of the sign.
Here is the sign at the entrance to Nuevo Progreso, Mexico
The Mexican Army was present in this border town.
Well, in the last 11 days, I’ve put on over 2,000 miles. Not bad considering I normally would not even take the RV out before the end of March.
Today I left Kerrville, TX and the RV.net Sweetheart Rally at Buckhorn Lake RV Resort. Nice place, nice rally, great people at the rally. We had fun.
I pulled out around 10 am today for Mission Texas. With a food and a fuel stop, I arrived at my destination, Retama Village around 5 pm. One of my customers and friends, Kathy A made dinner. Yummy. Then we went to see our mutual friends, Lex and Bonnie, also here in Retama Village. Nice night. Time to work on my expense report.

Cellular Data Equipment Installed in RVPosted by: Jim in Friends, RV, Tech Equipment, Texas, TravelIn two short work sessions over the last two days, here in Dallas, Terry H and I installed some equipment on and in the RV to improve cellular data and voice service for me when I travel in the RV. Here’s what we installed:
Last week, I moved from Sprint, using a Novatel EX720 Express cellular data modem card to Verizon, using a USB 760 cellular data modem device. I used the 3G Store to make this move. The cost of the modem with 2-year contract and a rebate was $0. The antenna, amplifier and router are also from the 3G Store. The dual DC outlet came from West Marine. Jim TerryH and I stopped at Red, Hot and Blue for some BBQ! on our guy’s day out. I arrived in Arlington, TX, on the south side of Dallas around 3 pm today. I am all setup in site 315 at Treetops RV Resort. Seems like a real nice place. |
