Nancy and I visited Lisa and Mike in West Lafayette, Indiana this weekend where Lisa is back in school at Purdue. While there, a friend of mine (Ann M) suggested we try a family drive-in called XXX Family Restaurant.
This family owned restaurant started brewing their own brand of Root Beer back in the 1930s I think. They stored it in oak barrels marked with XXX. Sort of like moonshiners once did. So I think that is where the XXX came from.
In any event - the food was decent. Nancy and I shared a pork tenderloin sandwich and a peanut butter burger. Both good!

Grandma McVay just had her defibrilator implant replaced and was in no condition to travel so we brought Easter dinner to her and Aunt Jan.  I made a HUGE pan of lasagna.  We had a nice visit and a yummy meal.

After we visited the Museum of Science and Industry, we met for dinner at Greek Islands in Greektown in Chicago.  Mike’s friend from college, Robert, had never been to Chicago or to a Greek restaurant.  So of course we had to start out with a round of Saganaki.

On New Years Day, Nancy and I picked Lisa and Mike up at the train station downtown, then met up with Mike and his college friend Robert at the Museum of Science and Industry.

This week was Robert’s first visit to Chicago.  He and Mike went downtown on New Years Eve and we figured a visit to this museum would be interesting for him as well.

Nancy needed her fix! Took her to Aurelios Pizza in Addison, IL after church today. One of several things we miss about Addison. Man is this pizza good!

Lindsay and her friend Christina went uptown Dells last night and got their wanted poster picture made! These women are armed and dangerous. Do not approach!

We celebrated Mike and Dylan’s birthdays at Marley’s in the Wisconsin Dells last night. Happy Birthday boys!

We had a great time once again at the 6th annual Smith Family Reunion, held at Liberty Park in Liberty, IL.  We stayed in the RV at Siloam Springs State Park near Liberty.

I made a rather impromptu stop in my home town of Fort Dodge, Iowa on my way back to Chicago from Gillette, Wyoming. I missed the 4th of July parades but I was able to catch the Fireworks in Otho with my Mom, Johnnie and Joey at Janice Marie’s home. She had patio furniture all setup in the driveway and the location was perfect! I had my Mom, Johnnie, Joey, my friends Steve and Melanie and their kids plus grandkids, Marshall and Mandy. We had a nice cookout at the RV. Fun-fun! Wish I could have stayed a couple days longer as I just can’t make it to Iowa as often as I’d like to see friends and family.
